What is Betavolt?
Betavolt New Energy Technology, a Chinese company in Beijing has introduced the BV100. It is a tiny atomic energy battery that’s causing a big impact. This Betavolt BV100 Nuclear Battery lasts for 50 Years without charging. This Betavolt nuclear battery uses a radioactive material called nickel-63 as the energy source, and a 4th-generation diamond semiconductor as the energy converter.
World’s First Mass-Produced Nuclear Battery:
The head of Betavolt, Chairman & CEO Zhang Wei, mentioned that the company’s first product the BV100. It will be the world’s first nuclear battery. It will be really small, just 15x15x5 millimeters, even smaller than a coin.

Innovative Design of Betavolt Nuclear Battery:
This coin-size nuclear battery has an innovative and simple design with a converter, base plate, nickel-63 source, and a protective layer. It’s made up of stacked layers. Such as a diamond semiconductor converter and thin slices of nickel-63. The battery is modular, meaning it’s built in sections. Each module has at least two converters and one layer of nickel-63. The smallest size for this atomic battery is 3 x 3 x 0.03 millimeters, which includes two converters and one layer of nickel-63. This small design can store lots of power – 10 times more than regular lithium batteries, about 3,300 megawatt hours.
This modular battery is 15mm by 15mm by 1.5mm. This nuclear battery gives out 100 microwatts of power at 3 volts. It might not run your phone yet, but Betavolt thinks if we use many of these boxes together, this technology could power bigger things.

Extended Lifespan:
Betavolt is already planning to make a bigger battery (1 watt) in 2025. They believe if we use these atomic batteries, we might not need to charge our phones anymore, and drones can fly without stopping.
Chines Betavolt’s BV100 is a small battery with a big impact. Moreover, it’s not just about power; it’s about changing how we use energy. The future looks exciting, with tiny batteries making a big difference in our everyday lives.
